Get Your Jazz Desserts

We had a wonderful evening last night. Mark received a call the other day and we were offered two tickets to a see a Christian Jazz group at a Youth For Christ fundraiser event. I told Mark that since Sarah and Jonathan were away this weekend, it would be nice if we could get an extra ticket for Brittany.

We left the house with enough time to grab some Wendy's before the concert and discovered that our area's worst snowfall was happening and the snow ploughs had not yet had a chance to tackle it. Making our way past a vehicle being towed out of the ditch made me wonder if this would have been a better night to hibernate in the warmth of my cozy home in front of my big screen tv (okay it's really Mark's) with a romantic movie (or action flick for my husband).

The weather and the roads seemed to get worse the further we drove. Both the Wendy's and the church parking lots were several inches deep in snow. I'd been wise enough to wear only shoes on my feet but, of course I forced my daughter to wear her boots.

We gobbled down our Wendy's and arrived at the church, where the event was being held. We discovered a beautiful setting of round tables and comfy chairs reminiscent of a warm inviting jazz lounge. At the back of the room was set up a coffee bar supplied by none other than our favourite Starbucks. You also had the choices of tea or hot chocolate. Nearby was a punch fountain and then beyond that were two long tables of very inviting desserts. In the middle of the two tables was a chocolate fountain with large bowls of strawberries and pineapple on either side. At this point I am determining that the previous stop at Wendy's was not necessary.

We found a table that would be a great vantage point to see the concert and give us great access to the eats. Okay, it was right at the back by all the food. On the tables - more food. There were some wonderful little appetizers for us to nibble on.

Besides all of the wonderful food there was a jazz concert. We were introduced to Paul Neufield and the Rhythm and Truth Band. They were very good and we really enjoyed them. There was a couple of songs performed by the Spirit Borne team. A member of our own youth group was asked to give his testimony and was presented with a special award; the Redner Compassion Award - sponsored by my own grandparents.

Our friend Jodie was at our table with us. He and Brittany had a great time outbidding each other at the silent auction. Thankfully Jodie won the item - I don't know where Brittany thought she would be getting the $160 that her highest bid was.

It was most definitely an enjoyable evening and well worth the terrible driving conditions that would have made me want to stay home from work. If they repeat this venue next year, I highly recommend that you take it in.
