Advent

Today, December 1, marks the first day of Advent.

Our children opened their Advent calendars today and began the tradition of eating a chocolate each day, counting down to Christmas.

The word Advent means "coming" or "arrival." The focus of this entire Christmas season is the celebration of the birth of Jesus the Christ in his First Advent, and the anticipation of the return of our Christ the King in his Second Advent. Advent is far more than simply marking a 2,000 year old event in history. It is celebrating a truth about God, the revelation of God in Christ whereby all of creation might be reconciled to God.

My husband bought me my own Advent calendar this year!! I haven't had one of my own since I was a child.

I was very surprised and excited. (Especially since mine is from Starbucks!!)
