Marriage Matters

Conversation with my twelve year old daughter. Taken place last week, while the two of us were relaxing in the hot tub.

Brittany: Mommy, if you and Daddy ever divorced...but I know you wouldn't...I don't think that I could choose who I would live with.

Me: I know you couldn't.

Brittany: I think that divorce is hardest on the children.

Me: I think you are right.

My kids told us years ago... that if either of us wanted to divorce... they'd choose to live with parent who didn't want the divorce (they added that they knew we'd never divorce).

It's been heartbreaking to see how many Christians so easily choose to divorce their spouse. The damage to the children and generations to come is so sad... it really makes me angry sometimes. It's as though they are just returning something to the store... they look at you like "what's the big deal".

Wise little girl! So true - and kids of divorced families have the hardest time making a comittment to marriage, too!

The kids are always the biggest heartbreak in the midst of the many heartbreaks that come with divorce.

I am glad Brittany will not have to experience this pain.

I remember talking with a mother who was divorcing....she had an almost 2 year old...she stated that the child "would never know..it won't effect her at all"..... She's almost 8 now. It's affected her more than we will ever know.

It makes me angry to Shari. And sad.

I remember when Liane was in Grade six,she came home from school and said
"hey mom I bet you ten bucks you and dad won't make it to your 10th anniversary"
I asked why she would say that and she said her and another boy in her
class were the only kids that still lived with both parents.
I asked how many kids were in her class?
She replied 32
That was 17 years ago and today it's seems to be worse.
All that comes to mind when I type here is not the whole scripture but part of it.
Suffer the Little Children.
Brittany is a wise and amazing child.
