My husband and another man, along with 6 of our Youth boys (one being my son) left early Tuesday morning for a missions trip in New York City.
They were to leave at 7am and got there around 4pm. They arrived to 100F temperatures and no air conditioning. This is missions, right? On Wednesday, they worked at the famous Bowery Mission in lower Manhattan. It was a very humbling experience for the boys and they worked very hard.
Then, afterwards, they did a sightseeing tour. They took the Staten Island ferry to see the Statue of Liberty, went to Times Square, the Rockefeller Center, Nintendo World, Apple World and Central Park.
On Thursday, they worked a relief bus at a park in the Bronx. Visiting the Bronx was very eye-opening for these boys.
The boys did great serving, talking & praying with people and cleaning the park.
That afternoon, the boys helped a pastor's daughter and husband move to their new home. (Another opportunity to serve.) The couple thanked them all by taking them out for a pizza supper.
Friday they went in to Lower Manhattan and served at another relief bus. The boys were talking and praying with the people that came to be fed at the bus.
Afterwards, they did a trip to visit Ground Zero.
Friday evening they did a children's service and my husband had the boys do most of it. He was quite impressed with how the boys got right involved.
This morning, the four older boys, had to be up at 7:15 to serve a breakfast. This afternoon they will do another relief bus and tomorrow after they do the Sunday morning service they will leave for home.
My husband's heart has been to take some kids on a missions trip and this trip seemed to be a perfect fit. It gave our kids a chance to learn about serving, demonstrate their faith and love of God, without having to leave North America. Especially, since this is a first missions trip for most or all of them and their parents are not along.
The boys are really wonderful young men and we are so very proud of them. This experience will be one that will help mold them further into the men that God has called them to be. Their relationships with each other have deepened and so has their Godly identity.
Bless you boys!!

Thanks for the update! Wow, the boys will be changed for life! Nice to be able to take a break from the "nitty-gritty" and see some sites. Hopefully next year MacKenzie will be able to go.
What an awsome praise report.
The Lord has touched these boys through this past week that I am sure will last a lifetime.
Looking forward to hearing their personal testimonies.
LOL! Your whole family is ministering to us in the US this summer! What a great trip the boys and what a wonderful way to show them firsthand what Godly service looks like.

I miss my Johnny and am so glad that he will be home in just a few more hours....sigh!
I am soooo glad that they have had such an incredible experience, I know I will be hearing lots and lots of stories tonight....I probably should have had a nap instead of shopping this afternoon!
I miss my Brandon too! I am so thankful he had this opportunity to go to New York and pray the servant's heart in him will continue to grow. Thanks Mark and Rick for taking the boys!

That is awesome! I hope I can go on a missions trip someday. I am sure the boys will have many stories to share when they get back. And memories they will never forget.
I'm so happy that they had a great time. I love NYC and fell in love with the people there.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sounds like a great experience!
That is great!!!
That does sounds like an awesome and eye opening experience for the boys. I would love for my kids to do something like that. We have a Fresh Air kid who stays with us everyone summer. He lives in the Bronx, I think it would be very insightful for my kids to see and visit the Bronx.
Thanks for posting about this. :)
