Momhood

Being a Mom is the most rewarding and yet challenging job there is. Ask any Mom. There is absolutely nothing that can prepare you for the feelings that will consume you once you meet your newborn for the very first time.

Nothing can prepare you for the awesomeness, and the overwhelming feeling of awe as you relegate in the fact that you were a significant part of God's own creation. That you carried to term a life; the most amazing thing ever that God bestowed upon us to fulfill.
This new role brings a realization of great responsibility. It can sometimes become too overwhelming if dwelled upon extensively. Even our own children can have expectations of our 'Mom' image that can become tiresome to try and meet. It can be bad enough when we place those impossible-to-fill expectations on ourselves. Living in a world of unreal expectations. Our children are not equipped to understand the requirements of adulthood. The juggling of work, home, ministry, wife and mother. And friends? Time for self? That is beyond they're necessary comprehension.

All they know is that we are their Mom. Sure, it would be wonderful if they could be accommodating to our needs as a person. However, the fact that they are able to just receive our unconditional love is enough. God is our provider. He alone is our Answer.

I cannot be 'the perfect mother' or 'my child's best friend'.

I can be the mother to my children that God has called me to be. And that's the best that they deserve. The best that God has for them.

Expectations really can be so high can't they....our own can be the worst!

This is where my Jesus comes in and fills every gap....mine and theirs!

Neat to read this...I thought a lot about my own Mom today. As the years go by I have a greater appreciation for ALL she has done and continues to do for her children - in-laws and grandchildren.

You are a wonderful example of what a Godly Mom should be. As you continue to lead Know that others are following.

Being a mom is so rewarding...but we all know there are days!!
I have huge expectations on myself..yet I am so grateful neither Mike or the kids carry the same ones...and God has none..except to rely on HIM.
Thanks for the reminder..

P.s. I posted on the cake comments..have a few questions..

Rhonda ... the last couple of weeks I am so drawn to the word "reality". What you've said is truth! Thanks for the "reality check!"

Loved this post, Rhonda. It really ministered. We place such unreal expectations upon ourselves as moms. But God is our answer. Amen.

Thanks Rhonda,

Great post..interesting bit of trivia for you. Yesterday I read in an issue of Chatelaine how they had a company put a dollar value on the work that moms do. This company said that stay at home moms (if they were paid), would make the about 134,000 dollars a year. For those moms who work outside the home, add 83,000 per year on top of their salary. Interesting eh?

I tell my kids that of all the families in the world, God made them our children and us their parents. We're supposed to be together!

Hey there....
Wanted to let you know how the Mac and Cheese went. Well, I was naughty and changed up the recipie...didn't have the old cheddar and only had whole wheat pasta. Would have been better if I had followed your directions more closely. Still, it was good and NO LEFTOVERS (sorry Tammy)!

Rhonda...
I've tried a mac and cheese with a sharp cheddar before and noone here liked it...is there a certain brand or certain age that you use??

Rhonda said...

Amy, all that I use is medium. Really not all that sharp. But it makes a much better mac & cheese than mild does. So, there you go.
