Snow Day and Other Stuff

I got the call at 6:30 this morning. "Schools are closed!" I get to stay home with my children. And be paid for it!!

I am enjoying working for the school board. This never happened where I worked before.

I appreciated my unexpected day off. I bonded with my son while he and I shoveled the driveway. It was a nice excuse to be outside and enjoy some mother/son conversation.

I 'distantly' oversaw my younger daughter do some baking.

And I assisted my older daughter with an on-line course that she was getting frustrated with. She ended the afternoon with accomplishing far more than she expected to. Good feeling!

The afternoon of homework assistance took a little more time than I would have anticipated. I unfortunately didn't get a chance to peruse a new addition to my addiction. My husband blessed me with another new book!!! Lisa Bevere's brand new book - Nurture.
This evening I went to the mall with my older two, while Mark took Brittany to the church for band practice.

Snow days are great days to go to the mall; everyone else is home hibernating.

I had gone to the mall on the weekend. There was a special sale on at a store I like. However, since our city is small enough, lots of my friends like the same store. And being 'twins' when you're 40 is apparently not cool. I have arrived at church events and discovered that items in my closet (or worse, on my person) are identical to other ladies (my friends!). I guess they have great taste!

While shopping on the weekend I found a very pretty sweater. Jen was at the store too for the special sale and I knew that she hadn't chosen this particular item. (She arrived before me and scooped up another sweater that I had my eye on.) Can you see how complicated this can be?!

My new sweater was beautiful. I decided that since it had short sleeves and I needed to get a little more wear out of my winter clothing; I would do something out of character for me. I would save it for spring.

The unthinkable happened! I went to work and one of the teachers was wearing my new sweater!!!! I couldn't believe it. She boldly yet unkowingly walked past me right after I arrived at work. The look of saddened disappointment on my face was too difficult to hide. My supervisor noticed right away that something was amiss. She inquired of my state. "Are you okay?"

I explained my dilemma. She reassured me in a way that any good female friend would. She told me that she was certain that the sweater would look much better on me. I appreciated her words of encouragement. After much contemplation I did however determine that the beautiful sweater and I would need to part ways. I knew that I could never wear it to work, which was my sole reason for purchasing it in the first place.

This evening I reluctantly returned it back to the store. I eagerly explained my situation to the cashier who listened with apparent indifference. (Store clerks are much friendlier when you are taking their merchandise with you as opposed to bringing it back to them.)

There is a happy ending to this story. As I ventured around the mall, I found a replacement. A very pretty vest. The same price. I made the decision to give it a new home in my closet.

And tomorrow, I will wear the new vest to work. Hopefully, I won't discover another twin.

I'm also blessed with the same book - thanks to Mark. It was a wonderful treat in the midst of my week. I love Lisa and John Bevere's materials. I've just read a few pages but plan to read more at bedtime tonight.

Sounds like you enjoyed your day at home. You're wise to wear your vest right away. This way you won't have to return it should you see a coworker with the same item!

See, I was thinking the same thing as Roxanne.
You know the initial error was not in buying the beloved sweater, it was in waiting to wear it. If you had been the first to wear it to work...guess who would have been returning their sweater??!?!?!?!?

We are going to have to make out of town shopping a priority so that there will be fewer adult twins in Belleville.
The whole "BUY LOCALLY OWNED" cannot apply to women's wear.

Too bad about the sweater. However, I'm sure the replacement you found will look just as good, if not better. But then again, you're so beautiful inside and out that you could make a paper bag look great!

Have a great day! We've had a few snow days this year. Now all my bulbs are coming up :)

LOL! One of the benfits of being completely out of touch with fashion, make-up and accessorizing is that I don't care if someone else is wearing my outfit. Actually, I get a little excited because then I feel like I've made a good fashion choice!

Ha ha! Too funny. We are very different from each other...
I couldn't care a less if I have the same clothes as someone else! It always looks different on me anyway, I figure as I am on the tall side.

Let us know how that Book is...

God made us so unique--it always amazes me!!
I'm with Holly--I couldn't give a rip if someone had the same clothes as me--I've often wondered why people have said "but we can't have the same [insert clothing type here]" But it probably doesn't matter to me because I HATE clothes shopping and would rather shovel my driveway than shop.
I'm so very glad we are all so unique and God has designed us so cleverly. (is that a word?)
I'm going to check out that book.

Amy I'm reading your comment about not liking to shop for clothes - I am with you sister.
Last night Derek worked but only for 3 hours - so rather than drive him to the mall and back again - I decided to go shopping. I last for maybe 20 minutes, bought nothing and quit. I sat at Chapters reading magazines... I'm hopeless when it comes to shopping.

Maybe twice a year "the Mood" hits and then I shop and drop some money. Kevin gets so excited when this happens as he really wants me to buy more.

We certainly are all so different in so many aspects - but that's what makes us so interesting. It would be SO BORING if we were all the same.

I do love shopping. (not to be confused with grocery shopping)

I also have two girls at home that are my fashion police.

I am sooooo with Rhonda, I love to shop, not including grocery shopping. I also don't like to wear what other people have on. SO I am with you, but since I have been working at home, I haven't been shopping as of late, which for Todd, he is happy about. I am itching though to hit the mall.
