I am a driving instructor again! My 16 year old son has his learner's permit and I took him out driving for the first time yesterday.
I've only had one prior student. My 18 year old daughter. Unfortunately she had to be taught by an inexperienced teacher. (Of course, the Driver's Ed course is where she got her basic skills.)
I, however, got to be in the passenger seat for practice driving.
This rite of passage is as much for the parent as it is for the child. The experience enables us to obtain more gray hairs and allows us to enhance our reflex skills. No relaxing in the car for this passenger.
I always tease my daughter that we practice our parenting skills on her, since she is the first-born. My son, once again, benefited. I was far more relaxed and patient with him. I knew what to expect and it was quite enjoyable.
Most of his friends are getting their licenses and/or learning how to drive now too. Before long we'll have another licensed driver in the house. Mark & I shouldn't have to do any errands at all. We should just be able to drive for sheer enjoyment. Do you think??

P.S Tell me when it's safe to ride with him :)
Yes, it definately is an experience!!
Congratulations Jonathan!!!
My Jon is feeling the fact that he is the youngest in the group over the past year...he really wants his license!
We get a few more months without grey hair anyway!!!
I don't know how you do it Rhonda...I worry I might not be a great teacher/passenger.
Hi, first time here. I enjoy reading bloggers who have kids near my kids' ages. I had an '07 HS grad, too.
You shouldn't have to run errands for about 2 months. After that the novelty is gone and so are they. LOL! So far I have 3 down and 4 to go in the driving department. Seeing my kids drive is a whole new experience in faith. I really have to let go and let God! Personally, I don't like it but what can I do but pray, pray, pray?!! It's funny because my 17 yr. old son doesn't have a car yet so he when I don't need it he uses mine. I was cracking up today as he and my 15 yr. old daughter took off to church together in my Jaguar today. He sure does have the life (but then again so do I!). To God be ALL the glory!!

I'm trying not to think about that phase just yet! LOL!

Meghan had her learner's permit, but so far Chad has been teaching her. He has more patience than I! I think for girls it is fun for Dad to teach them.
Last week she learned to pull the boat out of the water!

I saw Jonathan at the theatre on Saturday night. He was so excited that he was able to drive for the first time. Good luck and I'll send Bradley and Emma to you once it's their turn!
I am soon on the course for gray hairs too. My son starts drivers training next week. I really am not looking forward to it, but it's another step in his growing up.
