We had a conference at our church this past weekend. We've hosted many conferences over the years.
These conferences can be life-changing. However, if we think small, then next year we will all show up once again just to listen and hear and go away nice and alone again.
We need to remember that we can do whatever God has placed in our hearts.
As I was contemplating these thoughts this weekend, one word from David Bowie's song was playing in my head...
Ch ch ch changes
CHANGE. Am I willing to change?? Will I allow myself to be so completely dissatisfied that the only option is Change?
I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
Phillipians 4:13
We all have a sphere of influence to steward and each year that sphere should be bigger.
We can't empower others to do what we haven't done ourselves.
We need to be stretched to live what we have learned.

Sometimes it is when we are so completely dissatisfied that we become open to change.
My husband and I both grew up thinking that we would live close to home. But 5 years into a "dead end job" and not a great amount of friends our own age, God began to gently lead us. He ended up leading us to make a huge move, even with our 2 kids (under the age of 2 1/2) and hubby went back to school for 3 years.
I am thankful that we were brave and made that CHANGE. And you know what? And ya know what? It sure was STRETCHING...
Your words reminded me of The Prayer of Jabez. How many times have we prayed that ... "expand our territory". God gives us that "sphere of influence", but it is up to us to do the influencing isn't it?
We missed the conference, but are enjoying hearing tid bits about it. We were out "influencing our sphere"!
I just shared this very thing with our son today as I was driving him to tryouts for an All Star basketball team with mostly freshman kids at the high school he'll attend next fall. He was so nervous and tried to be "cool". They told them that most of the 8th graders wouldn't make the cut. He got a phone call from the head coach tonight. He made the cut. :) Still another cut to go, but round 1 is done. I shared Phil. 4:13 with him & encouraged him to put his confidence in God & not himself.
Great post.
Also, thanks for playing the "name game" on my blog. That was fun & one of your suggestions: G-Ma is what my son calls my mom. :)
Blessings,
Lelia
Really a great post Rhonda. Thanks for sharing your heart.
Good word and good challenge.
Change...not my favorite thing in life....but then, at other times, my whole being cries out for change.
God will allow us to get very hungry for His change and very uncomfortable in our old ways, in order to propel us into Him and His path.
Good word Rhonda.
Our First Nations Conference this past weekend challenged many of my outlooks. Something God keeps reminding me... He will either give me the desires of my heart OR He wants to change my desires.
