My youngest daughter Brittany is 12, soon turning 13.
She loves to read. Really enjoys reading.
But........recently she has had much difficulty finding something to read.
She wants to read books that are for teens - well, early teens. She doesn't however, want to have to worry about reading inappropriate material. She doesn't want to read about situations that don't align with her own moral values.
Every time we would go to a book store, she would peruse the books hoping to find the right one.
More than once she had come to me excitedly with a great find that we would purchase and take home only for her to discover that even though it was marketed for her age, it contained curse words that she was not comfortable reading. So, back to the store it would go.
Part of Brittany's challenge was that she was not interested in adventure stories or classics. Her recent interest is to read about teen issues and relationships.
Yesterday we went to our local Christian Book Store. And...we found a book. A book that has happened to be a great find.
She loves it! This hardcover book that we bought actually contains three issues. And she has already finished the first book (of 14 chapters).
If you have a daughter or know of a young girl with this same struggle, then I recommend that you check out author Robin Jones Gunn.
Brittany started with the Christy Miller series and has not been able to put down her book.

I love these books my 14 year old daughter read them last year and I read them before I let her. They were really good. She does get into some questionable situations but that is real life and she works through them.
Rhonda have you ever thought about writing?
Thanks for the recommendation! Tirzah is turning 12 this March...
I love Robin Gunn Jones! I've read all her Sisterchicks books meant for grown women. The Belleville library has about 6 of them and I know Brandy is now enjoying them. I'll have to check if the library has any of the teen books.
You know I meant to say Robin Jones Gunn, right?
I've read some of her adult series as well. She is an enjoyable writer.
Thanks for the suggestion! My Katie loves to read too. She enjoyed Tedd Dekker's teen series this year, so did I.

Thanks for posting this! We have struggled with this also, and so often my daughter does not read as much as I would like her too.
