Cost of Vanity

We went to an outdoor concert. Our tickets were in the standing section. The time on the ticket read 6:30 start. This meant that the gates opened at 6:30. Mark & I arrived at 7:00. The opening act came on around 8:10 and lasted until about 9:00. The main act came on the stage about twenty minutes later and stayed until just after 11:00.

This equates to four hours of standing.

I have a height-challenge. It seems that everyone I know is taller than me. I am 5'2". Most everyone else is not. Including my children and their friends.

I like to now-and-then have the opportunity to not feel like a small child looking up at everyone when we are out. Going to the concert, I decided to wear my heels. I chose my wedge sandals (similar to those in the picture below), because the wedge heel provides 'more balance' for standing.

These shoes were not designed to stand in-one-place for four hours without causing the feet inside of them a lot of pain. My feet were still reminding me of my selfish decision the following day.

My compensation was that the concert was great. The entertainer was......

Randy Travis

I'd never seen him 'live' before. And I'm certain that at such a distance, he did not realize that I was 'taller' than normal. If he was able to somehow see me, he might have been mistaken in thinking I was not enjoying his music, when in reality my pained-expression would have been due to my sore feet.

Perhaps I'll give in to my height (or lack of it) and wear more comfortable shoes next time....or then again, I might not.

LOL! I've had those standing tickets before too! It's a nightmare on the feet, but totally worth it if you enjoyed the concert.

I feel your pain Rhonda,
Been there done that many a time.
The sad thing is the odds that I will do it again are great.

I am 5'8", and my daughters are petite. My youngest is 5'2" like you, but she has not wanted to wear heels yet. I usuall have the opposite experience as you, that is, I feel too tall around other women, even though I like being on the tall side. Plus, my husband is about 5'7", so I don't wear a lot of big heels around him. Why are height and shoes so complicated?? I'm sure Randy just thought you were really feelin' his music.

See, Just goes to prove, we are never quite thrilled with our own stature...I would be one of the "tall" friends and wore ballet flats to the concert...which I usually wear, for the opposite problem....My feet were acheing too....so either vanity got us both, or I am more inclined to say that being princesses, we were created for pampering and not for standing on pavement for hours on end!

Randy was great though!!!

haha...I don't exactly "feel" your pain! -At almost 5'9" and an inch and a half taller than my husband, I usually always wear flats. That has changed a bit (just these past few years) and I wear heals now when I dress up.

Hope your feet are feeling better now!

Vanity has definately left this chicky...I'd wear my comfy slippers if I could--actually, I have!! I am a comfort girl through and through...!!

BTW--ask Mike about his "meeting" with Randy--it's a hoot!!

Randy Travis - My daughter would be so jealous. He is her all time favorite (she is 13).
