Memory Triggers

I've been noticing all of the beautiful gladiolus lately.

It's the time of year when they're in bloom and the market vendors and road side stands have lots of them with so many colors to choose from.

When I see gladiolus (or 'glads') I think of my dad. My father was the one who did the grocery shopping at our house. Every Saturday morning. I usually went with him because, where ever he was going was where I wanted to be.

After we were done buying groceries we had to stop by the market. My dad would usually buy his favorite cookies from one of the vendors and our last stop included him picking out a bouquet of glads to take home to my mom. They're a big, beautiful flower that brighten up any room.

It's so nice when you see something beautiful and it triggers a happy memory.

I was reminded of this again this morning, when my husband came home from grocery shopping and handed me a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

You are a VERY blessed woman not only to have had such a great Daddy but also to have a husband who goes out of his way to bless you!

(No, M.Mc. hasn't paid me to say this!) ;o)

It's always amazing how two things can totally change a room...a fresh coat of paint and a beautiful arrangement of flowers! What a great memory of your dad, and blessing to have a husband who thinks to bring you flowers!

My dad used to grow these, and I thought of him when I was at the market last week. I chose sunflowers instead as I did not have a vase large enough for glads....I ended up discovering I am very allergic to sunflowers, and they are now decorating my front step....wonder what would have happened had I chosen glads....not ready to find out just yet!

I absolutely love glads. I used to grow them every year, but then stopped (dont' know why). However this year I planted 30 bulbs and was reminded of the beauty of these flowers.

it's the simple things of our child hood that leave lasting marks on our hearts, and it's those simple things that we forever hold on to.
For me it's sunflowers, a front porch swing, and food.
