When Mark & I were first married we didn't cook. Mark would barbeque and I would bake. Other than that we would eat out.
Once we had children, we started having supper at home. And I did the cooking.
I don't like making supper. Actually, I don't like planning what to make for supper. We struggled with my lack of organization and lack of creativity.
After we'd been married over ten years, my job was relocated to Kingston, an hour away from home. With my new working hours, Mark took over the supper preparation. The children and I both were very pleased with this new arrangement. Supper became something we looked forward to.
Mark enjoys cooking and I am quite happy to show my appreciation by doing the after-supper clean-up.
Our schedules have now made it challenging for either of us to be tied to the kitchen. We have now adopted a new routine and are sharing the cooking with our children.
Tonight was Brittany's night to cook. She enjoys learning new cooking techniques from her Daddy.
This evening's menu was:
Stuffed Tortellini with a Marinara Sauce and Caesar Salad

Ok! This is pretty funny....While Jianna was eating breakfast this morning, she wanted to know how long until Jonathan heads off to university...I thought she might be staking claims on his room...but she informed me that I needed to teach him to cook before he went away!
We have talked about giving Jonathan one night a week to plan and make supper....I guess the confirmations are in....Jon's time of being waited on is coming to an end!
Our rule is that the first one home makes supper. Great for me when Paul is on summer hours, not great when he is on winter hours. I LOVE to cook and bake, but also often struggle on the menu. In the winter the crock pot is my best friend - especially with Bradley's hockey schedule. Bradley is already able to cook some dishes and especially likes to BBQ. Emma would rather bake so that she can eat all the treats! Brittany can come over and cook any time she wants! Actually you should come over for dinner soon so that we can all catch up.
What time is dinner?? I need to know so I can make my way to your house!! lol
On a serious note, you need to post this recipe...it sounds YUM-OH!
Sounds yummy!
You sound just like me...I love to bake, but just trying to think about what I am going to cook annoys me!
I like to either have the recipe ready or just make the same stuff....
oh well, at least there are good restaurants around ;)
BG
I don't mind cooking but don't like planning for it. I bad about trying something together at the last minute.
I am with you Rhonda. I don't cook. However our men like to eat. At least mine does.
Def. a rule that I have thought about for a long long time (and, at my kids age, will be a long long time before it happens!!) I can hardly wait to eat burnt spaghetti made lovingly by my son!!
I have loved teaching my girls how to cook as well. Now, I'm beginning to reap the benefits ... meals cooked for me!
Ok feelin pretty bad here.....
Confession time.
I FAILED HOME-EC
However I did teach my daughter the utmost important lesson in life.
Marry a man that can cook....
She did
Needless to say Steve and my son-inlaw Luke talk about recipes and check out the grocery flyers and ask each other did you see Michael whatshisface on the cooking channel? this gives Liane and I a good giggle and many a High Five the downfall however, is we also chat about our weight gain. hahaha
Sounds like a yummy dinner Rhonda made by a wonderful chef. I too would like the recipe to pass on of course.
she's such a great girl, no wonder with parents like you guys.
