Talk to Strangers!

She bought her cute yellow jacket in China.

That's what she told me after I complimented her on the jacket. I don't know her. Never met her before. Still don't know her. We were both fixing our drinks at Starbucks.

I like talking to people that I do not know. It's fun!

I enjoying striking up small conversations when I'm out shopping or running errands. It's especially easy with cashiers.

This seems to happen most often when I have my youngest with me. As we leave the store, my daughter will ask me if I know that person. Most often I say 'no'. My daughter rolls her eyes. She thinks it's silly.

It's fun to be friendly to strangers. You never know what sort of encouragement you might be to them. They could be in the midst of a stressful day and you might be their only 'ray of sunshine'.

It's especially rewarding to offer some friendly words when you happen to be the next-in-line after someone who was a not-so-nice customer.

Does anyone else out there like to do this too?

Let's throw out the 'Don't Talk To Strangers' rule. We're not children anymore. Let's see what opportunities God brings in our path to be a 'ray of sunshine' in someones life.

You might be surprised.

My hubby does this all the time! The girls and I have learned from him. God has placed some very interesting people in our path and it has been a joy to see the profound difference a quick, friendly comment can make in their day.

My first inclination is to be reclusive with strangers, but I have learned to take the time to smile and greet people in an up beat way....I agree, after watching someone in the service industry deal with someone nasty or unrealistic...makes me want to be extra nice to try and bring a bit of light back into their day.

i love doing this too. Sometimes it's the little things that are such a blessing (ie. a smile or a fewf kind words)!

Good for you Rhonda...keep talking to strangers!!;o)

I do this as well, however I must admit that the prize really does go to Paul in this area. He will talk to anyone about anything!

Ah!! Talking to strangers does not come naturally to me, but I know how important it is (especially on a university campus).. so I told myself at the beginning of this year I was going to find at least 2 new friends in each class. And now that I think about it, I have made many more that goal.

Thank you for the encouragement!!

I would have to say the Todd is awesome at this. He would rather talk to strangers than anyone else. He loves to make people smile especially cashiers.
