News Headline:
Ontario Government Proposes Ban On
Hand-Held Devices While DrivingI do this. When my daughter got her license, I told her
not to do this.(Although I know she does it anyhow.)But I do this. I didn't think that I would, but I do.More often than I realized. More often than I should.I sometimes text while driving.I started out by only texting while sitting at a red
light, but then continued, just to finish my
message so I could send it.I know it's bad. I know it's dangerous. I know.
I really do.The news headline has created lots of conversation
at work. I actually hadn't realized how much I was
doing it. The work conversation caused me to take notice. This legislation proposal is creating quite a stir. Some areas already have a law in place that ban
texting while driving.I agree that texting while driving is not safe at all.Tell me what you think. But, please don't give me a
hard time about being honest with you.

I don't have a cell phone... however my husband and kids all do. It's nice when they let me know(via cell phone) they are on route.
I'm actually shocked at how cautious Kevin is regarding the phone and driving.
Ryan has been pulled over while talking on his cell phone and was given a stern warning... by none other than one of our guys from the church... you know the REALLY tall one.
I just read an article that showed that texting while driving impaired your reactions/timing/reflexes 3X more than alcohol. I am guilty of talking and texting while driving, but I do believe it is dangerous! What is the penalty for TWD? Melissa
Hmm, Melissa - I dunno.
I wonder if that will make a difference.
Hi Rhonda,
I have only done it a couple of times. Mainly because we are teaching Meghan to drive and I don't want her to do it.
I do find myself asking one of the girls to send a text for me. That has been a big save for me, just handing them the phone and asking them to do the typing.
It is scary because it is so easy to get into a habit of doing it.
I just don't know, I can still remember when cell phones first became so popular it was considered dangerous to talk and drive. My parents still fuss at me if I call them while I'm driving.
I just don't know...

I try really hard not to use my cell while driving, but I also admit that I do use it. I don't text though as we just have basic service on our phone. Even though I do it, I still think the legislation is a good thing.
Whats the difference if you text or eat a sandwich that drips sauce down the front of you. Or I have seen ladies putting on make up well driving or curling their hair. I have seen them reading books, their GPS, working on the computer.
So where does it stop, and when does common sense kick in. There are already laws that police can use to stop this we do not need the gov't passing another law. Just let police do there jobs.
Because what is next a law saying you can't drink your Timmy's .... now that would cause a outcry.
Rhonda I have tried to text while driving but am not that coordinated and admittedly veered off the road.
So I don't anymore
To anonymous: I use a straw while drinking my timmies less chance of spilling and burning and reacting with less caution.I respect your comments but am here to say when one gets hit from behind at 80-90kms without breaking and on the phone and leaves me off work for 7 months well I think we have an issue.
Personally we have all done it but with this posting we should all be aware of what we are not doing in our cars that being
Paying Attention
Thanks for the posting Rhonda
Great reminder
Love the new look of your blog ... again! Keeping up with fashion is hard enough, but keeping up with blog fashion is even harder!
I don't text and drive. When I'm driving, I only drive. There are lots of things that I do that I can multitask, but not driving. Usually my hubby is driving and I'm doing the texting!
Good reminder to be careful.
Miss you,
Vicki
I am really not proficient enough at texting to do it driving, but have at red lights!
I also love red lights for putting on lip gloss...I figure, worse case scenario, I might miss the timing of the light by a few seconds and make someone behind me cranky, but I check to see at what point in the light rotation I am coming up to before I start, just in case.
I did have Jonathan text for me once when I was driving...it was to his dad, but somewhere in the conversation, Mark forgot that Jon was doing this for me and it got a little "entertaining"...I told Mark he was paying for any counseling Jonathan might need!
I have to agree with "Anonymous" here though.
At what point does common sense kick in? Juggling a burger and fries or simply having a screaming baby with a lost soother in the back, can cause the same issues. Careless driving fines already exist, why not just enforce those?
Not every distraction can be legislated, then again, I have similar feelings towards play equipment being removed from parks and school grounds so kids don't get hurt...but that's another topic!!!
Well, if I gave you a hard time it would be the pot calling the kettle black! I find myself doing it all too often, and then justifying to myself. I wonder how many people have cursed me under their breath for cutting them off or swerving into their lane?
Xandra
lol.....this post has gotten a lot of attention.haha
I am one of those that agrees that it is not good to text and drive. And yet...I have most definately been caught doing it. I even tell Tom and Rebecca that it is not safe...in hopes that they will believe me and stop doing it themselves.lol
I am glad for the legislation...it could actually save lives. For the past month or so I have already made an effort to not even look at a text that I get until I am stopped somewhere off the road and parked.
