Not So Nice People and Nice People

I went to the movies this afternoon. Actually a whole bunch of us went together to see Marley & Me.

Today is 'Cheap Tuesday'. Movies are normally $9.95 for adults but on Tuesdays all tickets are only $4.20.

We got there 30 minutes early in order to get good seats. Unfortunately, everyone else in the theatre arrived earlier than we did.

The line was right out the door.

We were able to get tickets but there were no seats for everyone together. We had to divide up through out the theatre. There were seats enough for everyone to sit in pairs; but there were an odd number of us. We needed one spot with three seats together in order to accommodate all of us.

I spotted two empty seats next to two ladies who had one empty seat on the other side of where they were sitting. I asked the lady that was seated next to the single empty seat if it was taken. She informed me that it was not. Perfect!

I explained our situation and our need of three seats together. I asked her if she would be able to do me a big favor and move over one seat.

She said NO! She did not smile. She did not look sympathetic. She did not apologize. She did not feel badly at all!

I was not asking her to give up an aisle seat. I was nicely asking her to do one little act of decency. Argh! It was simply not within her to be nice. Not today anyway.

I could not believe it. I had never encountered anyone so down right mean.

In the midst of my disbelief and disappointment another lady, a row ahead, determined that the friends she was saving seats for were not coming and that there would be three empty seats next to her. Three empty seats together. I was relieved. No one would be sitting alone.

I was overjoyed.

We enjoyed the movie. It was a great way to spend some time with friends and family during the holidays.

Because I'm a bit spiteful, I would have harumphed my rearend down in the single seat and then proceeded to have a wonderful conversation with my two other friends, who were just 2 seats away.
I'm not nice.

I am glad you enjoyed the movie.

I am traditionally a nice and accommodating person, and I get so mad when people do stuff like that. I just don't get it. Glad you could find seats. Did you like the movie?

I did like the movie. If you've ever owned a dog then the movie is even more special.

But, I like Jennifer Aniston, so I would have seen the movie just because she is in it.

I am sorry you had to be subjected to such rudeness yesterday.
I am glad you enjoyed the movie and there was the kindness of one person to allow you all to sit together.
I must say while reading your post I was thinking the same thing as Amy.

I'm always amazed at how rude people can be sometimes. Those are the times when I have a hard time with really walking the walk, if you know what I mean. It's hard to love them like Jesus does when my human side wants to stomp my foot and teach them a lesson!
