Grandpa Redner

Today we celebrated my Grandfather's life. He was in his 102nd year when he went home to be with the Lord on August 28.

In my cousin Patrick's words he was a man of passion. Passion for life, passion for family and passion for his faith.

My grandfather has left quite a legacy. He had 11 children with my grandmother and had 21 grandchildren. I loved having so many aunts and uncles and cousins.

My ancestors are United Empire Loyalists. My grandfather lived in Rednersville, named after our family, and resided in the original Redner home that could be found in local history books. I have come to realize what a unique heritage I have.

My grandfather had many great qualities and giftings. He loved the Lord first and was always eager to share the salvation message. He was an evangelist at heart. His home had an open door. My grandparents always had people for dinner or guests staying in their home. He had the gift of hospitality. He was an encourager, a leader, a teacher, a giver, an entrepreneur.

I was thinking of my grandfather's children. My aunts and uncles. They all have inherited his gifts. They are very hospitable. I know that I could call any of them and would be welcome to come visit. They are amazing encouragers. They speak life into others. I love talking with my relatives. It's like receiving another piece of yourself. I know myself better after spending time with people who are just like me.

These past few days have given me a lot to think about. I am learning more about my inheritance. My inheritance of the gifts that have been passed down to me. I want to embrace my gifts and become all that I was intended to be.

This has given me an opportunity to become reconnected with my extended family and to maintain a relationship with them.

Thank you Lord for my grandfather. Thank you for the legacy that he has left behind.

Bless you all as you move forward without the physical presence of such a great Grandfather.

He really has inspired a legacy of great charicteristics in his lineage, we have been personnally blessed in so many ways by members of the "Redner" family.

So thankful that your family was blessed to have him with you for so long. Not many people know their grandparents really well and even fewer knew their great-grandparents. Inheritance is something passed from one generation to the next (usually to family members). Family heirlooms and mementos are treasured reminders of the events in our family's history.

It is important to know our roots and to honour the sacrifices made by our ancestors, especially those who risked personal injury to preserve our freedoms (Christian as well as Loyalist). Remember that God has promised to BLESS those who love Him and keep His commandments for a thousand generations. Many of our blessings of today were "inherited" from godly family members who are now long forgotten. BUT God never forgets HIS promises to them or to us.

God BLESS your family as they celebrate the legacy left by this godly man. <><
