Clearasil Confidence

I am posting something that I read on Virtue Alert, a great blog by Vicki Courtney. I just read her posting and was so concerned that I wanted to make more people aware of the campaign that Clearasil is targeting our youth with.

The above ad is one of three ads in Clearasil's new "may cause confidence" campaign.

No one in my family is currently using Clearasil and for now it will continue to stay that way. I think that Clearasil might want to re-think their current marketing strategy.

That's just way over the top. I can't imagine that they would actually create something to endorse that type of behaviour in the our innocent girls. Perhaps we should leave some comments on their web site!

I USED TO USE THEIR PRODUCTS AS A TEEN, THE ADVERTISING THEN WAS SO FRESH AND INNOCENT...I AM VERY DISTURBED.

It's sad that so many companies have taken this approach to advertising.

Thanks for posting this. I am shocked and disgusted at the way advertising has changed. I'm sure my husband would laugh at this, until he stops and thinks about his 3 daughters!

I find it quite hypocritical that somebody posting against the perceived theme of this advert should redistribute the advert on their blog, thereby propagating it to an ever greater audience.

Standing apart from that for a moment the perception is that this ad is in some way promoting young teenage sexuality. I personally don't see either actor in this advert as looking under the age of 18 and the event of baby photos is a tradition carried long into the 20's when people meet each other's parents. I also note that there is a lack of balance in this argument because another of the ads in the sequence takes place in a classroom where a definite age profile can be assumed. However, the advert is shown from the position that the male is inviting the "picture me naked" proposition to his teacher. However, there is not a word spoken from this moral high ground about that advert. May I ask why?
