Chicago Bound

My 16 year old son heads off on his first trip tomorrow, without any family. Jonathan is in the Jazz Band at school and he is participating in a music trip to Chicago!

He is quite excited. They have an awesome itinerary. And to top it off, he is traveling with one of his best friends!

Tonight we had his favourite food for his going-away supper; Mac and Cheese. Favourite food to know he is loved. What better way to a man's heart!

I took a picture of him in his new clothes. They are going to a live jazz concert and are required to dress up a bit.

It's always hard to let your kids go away on their own, but I've been through this before. So, once again, Sarah has paved the way for her younger brother.

He looks very handsome and ready for the challenge!

I'll be having to say goodbye to Matt in a month for his missions trip to Mexico. He'll be gone for 6 WEEKS!!!!!

Have fun Jonathan!

A live jazz concert ... how fun! I attended my first last year. Friends took Andrew and I to see and hear Freddy Cole, Nat King Cole's brother. Amazing! Hearing music done well, really well, will give Jonathan an even deeper appreciation for it and a desire to be an even better musician. I guess what I'm saying is that it is inspiring!

My how grown up Jonathan looks. What a great opportunity for him. With the awesome parenting you and Mark have done he will do fine in the world on his own!

What an exciting time for him! He must be an awfully good musician to be going to Chicago to play. My son has a singing competition this weekend to qualify for State. Unfortunately he doesn't really take singing too seriously (life IS about baseball you know) so I am hoping he will do OK. He is very talented, just doesn't appreciate it. OH, if only God had given me a voice!!!!sigh.

Have a great day and I will be praying your son has a wonderful and safe trip!

Love,
Kelley

Ps. Thanks for all of your encouraging words on my blog!

I was SO disappointed when Derek quit the Jazz band. He felt with all of his other bands this was just one too many.... I'm certain he would have loved this trip. I'm sure it will be fantastic!!

I already miss my Johnny...I can't believe we let him go!!!!
So glad he has your Jonathan with him, and more importantly that God is with them....and it is one more baby step towards having to go away for school in a couple of years.
This momma is just going to need time as we blaze new territories.

What a good looking young lad !
He is going to have a great time,...WOW...a jazz concert. Who is he going to hear? Many moons ago when I went on a school trip to Chicago it was to play Volley ball at Moody.

I love reading about all these big steps that your children are taking towards their independence. Kind of helps me with the whole idea of sending my youngest to Kindergarten.

Exciting times, for sure. You can just see the confidence in this young man. You've done a good job, Mom. He's confident, talented, secure enough at home to be able to travel ... way to go! I love teenagers.
