I Had One of THOSE Moments

Whenever my husband has been away over the years one thing that my children have always liked to do is to sleep in my bed.

One night this week, Brittany was happily tucked in with me. We had gone to bed early because she wanted to read and I wanted to watch a dvd.

I like using the laptop to watch movies when my husband isn't home.

I didn't want to disturb Brittany or keep her up later than she needed to be, so I used earphones to listen to the movie. I told her to just read her book for a bit and then turn out the lights before she goes to sleep.

We were nicely settled in and I was watching the movie for a little while when a funny part happened on the screen. I laughed. And so did Brittany. At the same time.

Surprised at this coincidence, I asked her what she was laughing it.

We have a king sized bed and Brittany and I were far enough a part that I knew she wasn't watching the movie with me.

She told me that she was laughing at the scene in the movie. Laughing at what she had just heard. Puzzled, I asked her how she knew what had just happened. She told me that she was listening to it.

Confused I asked her how could she be since I was listening to it through earphones. She informed me that she could indeed hear it. Once again, I didn't understand how that could be so.

Then, Brittany leaned over, unplugged my earphones, so that I could see that there was no difference in sound. Then, my daughter, took the plug to my earphones and inserted it into the correct outlet in the laptop.

Yes. I indeed was listening to the dvd through the external speakers....with earphones plugged into my ears.

My wise 13 year old daughter just smiled and shook her head. And so did I.
